Pat O’Sullivan 38 mins, Ryan Warr 87 mins
We made the long trip to Bosham for our first away game of the League season. A couple of changes to the starting line up as Ben Ward came in for the absent Leo Trower at left back, with Justin Gregory moving to right back. Joe Warner got his debut start for Beeding in place of Jake Cockerton as Beeding went for a narrow formation.
What ever the reason, we were poor from kick off and found ourselves 2-0 down after 30 mins as Bosham including Kieran Hartley for his first start on his return after 18 months away from football through injury, made us pay. Mind you, no formation was to blame for the first goal where a rare mistake from keeper Dan Banks gifted them a penalty, and earned a yellow card, which Hartley buried on 18 mins. Just 7 mins later, Hartley defence splitting through pass was coolly finished by Mines for the second.
Soon after, a change of shape by Beeding was immediately rewarded when a peach of a cross from the right was finished first time by Pat O’Sullivan on 38 mins, 2 in 2 for the striker, 2-1 at HT.
Bosham could have taken the game beyond us, twice rattling the bar from distance before the introduction of subs Kris Harding, Jake Cockerton and Mike Neatherway on his debut saw a strong finish from Beeding.
In a bizarre incident after 78 mins, Cockerton was blocked off by last man Nick Edgington, Ref points to the spot and with the ball placed ready for the penalty, his attention is drawn to the frantic flag waving Club lino. After a lengthy consultation, frustratingly for Beeding, it’s decided the offence was outside the box, Edgington given a straight red, and Kris was narrowly wide from the eventual free kick.
Just when it looked like being one of those days, with 3 mins left of normal time a drilled effort from Ryan Warr from outside the box went under the keepers dive for a hard earned late equaliser. 2-2 FT.
A point about all we deserved on the day against a stronger Bosham than recent seasons. Can’t fault the determination and fitness of the squad to get something from the game, and if you can’t win, make sure you don’t lose. Not yet reaching the standard we expect of ourselves.
MOM Ryan Warr, at the centre of our best moments and a first goal in the Beeding shirt. Well played.
